I want to focus this post on A { RR } Reader Request that I got, I love getting request’s and remember , anytime you have one, please feel free to email me or comment me!

Rebecca asked me for some advice -

My Reader’s Request: How do you balance healthy living with having fun? I’m in college, and it’s incredibly difficult to be surrounded by alcohol and unhealthy foods and to allow myself to indulge but not go overboard. I either restrict or go crazy. I want to be able to have a fun night out without feeling guilty in the morning. How do you do it??

Now, i just want to start off by saying , I am just keeping it real and sharing what works for me and what my eating lifestyle is, everyone is different, and what works for me might not work for others !

I believe that life is all about balance, moderation, and living to the fullest! I really have to admit when I modeled it was a no balanced lifestyle, I would not eat anything that I thought was *bad* foods like ice cream, cookies, and no alcohol, I was VERY strict, BUT it never lead me to any weight problems, meaning a eating disorder. I just never got to enjoy things and a lot of times I would not go out because my friends would go out drinking or out to eat, I would not go because of my restrictions, but I have to say, I loved modeling and it was worth it to me , but I should of let myself go a little more, I should have not worried about treating myself to ice cream or a drink, but thats life, you live and learn  ;-)

Let me explain why I lead a healthy eating lifestyle

- My body is my temple and I want to love and respect it

- My body craves healthy eating, it’s what makes me feel good

- When I do have ice cream or cookies etc… my body is not so happy : p sugar coma!

- I love ice cream, cookies, Stuffed Crust Pizza,  and all that yummy stuff that is not good for you  ;-) BUT I do enjoy it when I want !

-  Plain and Simple, My body feels BETTER when I eat healthy foods like fruits , veggies, and other healthy yums!

I think Rebecca the best way to not go crazy is to just not let it get to you mentally! I know this is easier said then done, but you can’t restrict because like you said, it leads to bad things, but you need to think like this………..

Life is Short, I am beautiful, and I should not pass on that cake because I should enjoy things I like, and if today was my last day, and I passed on that cake, then Shame on ME!!!

I know , Im crazy, but seriously, I know how hard this can be for you being in college and trying to balance a healthy lifestyle , and I wish I had a magic wand and all the problems were gone , but I don’t  :-|

Some tips I do have -

* Keep Healthy Eats in your apartment/dorm , if you don’t have junk , then it is out of sight, and out of mind!

* At parties, bring some healthy snacks in your purse, or eat something healthy before you go as well

* Drinking, well I like a glass of wine,  I usually have wine when out, and then I will have a water with a splash of cranberry or yes, Diet Coke! It’s better than tons of alcohol!

* Working out if you can fit it in is always great too! Great stress relief and just good for you!

I hope this helped a little, and readers please feel free to chime in and add your thoughts too!!!

Rebecca, just remember, don’t EVER feel guilty, it’s not worth it, if you go out to a party and have some drinks and then drunk munchies after, so what?! Your living! The next day is a new day , and you can start the day with a healthy breakfast and even a workout!

I was just in Chicago , and went out on a Wednesday night, had lots of wine, big dinner, and ice cream and cookies!  I don’t EVER let myself feel guilty, I used to in the old days, but I realized, I  lead a very healthy lifestyle all the time, and nights I want something not so healthy, who cares?! I enjoy nights like that, and the next day I continue on  :-D

I do want to say as well, JUST BECAUSE I eat very healthy, and do not have sweets every day or unhealthy foods, does not mean I am not living a healthy and balanced lifestyle, as I said , when I put too much sugar in my body or unhealthy eats, my body does not love it, healthy eating is what makes ME happy!

I balance my ice cream with veggies and fruit ,  it works  ;-)

Thanks for the Question Rebecca, and if there is any more  advice you need , me or my readers are here for you , let me know!

Have a great day loves! I have tanning and a GameStop run to make! I vacuumed up Anthony’s PS3 Headset Cord and broke it yesterday  8-O now I have to go replace them, I am clumsy !

Katie xoxo

It’s so easy to vacuum stuff up with the hoover, I’ve done it with socks, nice underwear which got completely ruined. Your breakfast looks yum, I’ll have to try it. Loving the overnight oats.

Great advice you gave Rebecca, it’s all about balance and moderation and just living life. So excited for you for Saturday!!!

What a great post girl! I had this problem as well, but soon realized that you need to have balance in your life. I was unhappy when I was restricting, not going out with my friends to avoid high calorie consumption etc. But as long as it is in moderation it is healthy.

After a night of drinking a few too many alcholic beverages or a few too many sweet treats I have learned to refuel my body the next day with lots of water, fruits and vegetables instead of dwelling on the situtation and making it worse. It helps to stay positive :)

Katie I think you gave great advice. There are nights that I know I am going to go a little overboard (weddings, parties, etc) and I plan the rest of my day around healthy foods — and the next day I start off with a good breakfast. No need to stay on the road of unhealthy foods.

I like that you practice moderation, which is easier said than done, but to me it is the only way to go!

Thanks Holly!! I know, it is easier said then done, but gosh life is too short and we all need to just live it up!!

Great advice! Finding a balance can be difficult, but it’s important to learn. If I overindulge the night before, I try to listen to my body the next day, eat healthy and only when I’m hungry. And even if that doesn’t work out, it’s okay! One night isn’t going to kill you. :)

THANK YOU! I so needed to read this. You’re advice is, as always, amazing. I’m really going to try to move forward with the mindset that it’s HEALTHY to indulge and that by putting so many restrictions on myself I only want to go balls to the wall crazy later. I know it’s a process, but I really want to feel like a cupcake or a drink are perfectly okay, and I will get there! :)

Where do you buy your protein powder! I’d love to start incorporating it in to my smoothies, but have a slight fear it may bulk me up. What do you think?

Reply

25 Katie April 4, 2011 at 6:10 pm

SunWarrior! It is the best!!!!!! http://www.sunwarrior.com

No girl you will not bulk up! I have usually just one scoop a day, sometimes 2 scoops when I work out, it is good! I like natural protein the best like chicken and fish, but adding powder to my oats or smoothies is a must for me!!!

This is such great advice. I have felt that same way Rebecca has many times before…the cycle of restricting or overdoing it and the guilt! Once you find what works for you and how to actually balance it all, you feel wonderful!
I love when you said,
“Life is Short, I am beautiful, and I should not pass on that cake because I should enjoy things I like, and if today was my last day, and I passed on that cake, then Shame on ME!!!”
That is soooooo true!

U are so right about finding what works for ‘you’ and then feeling great! it took me a while to find that, but when I did, it was the best!

U are so sweet, glad you liked my little quote! xoxo

Can’t say enough about this post. I love your outlook! And it helps so much to hear you say “don’t EVER feel guilty”…that’s always one big regret I have. But you just cannot waste your time feeling that way. It does NO ONE any good, especially yourself. LIVE IT UP because life is so precious!!
