Young and Carefree { body image }

by Healthy Diva on July 29, 2011

I remember the days when I was young, so carefree and never once looked in the mirror and thought, “my arms look flabby”

I would never look at a picture and think, wow those are some  chicken legs and nice afro , lol

Putting my self down with negative comments or thoughts never happened when I was a kid, and eating whatever I wanted and never worrying about the fat content and calories of things

I used to eat Little Debbie Snack cakes on a daily basis, these things were always stocked in our pantry

Little Debbie Snack Cakes, Fudgesicles, Cheetos, Potato Chips with Ranch Dip, Ice Cream, and all that stuff I don’t eat on a daily basis now  ;-)

I don’t deprive myself of things like this now, I just make healthier choices and I eat what makes my body feel good, my body can’t run on debbie snack cakes like it did when I was younger, lol  8-O

I remember I used to ride my bike ALL day, I seriously would ride all the time in the summer, and when school was in, I would do my homework and run out to ride bikes with friends

Did I ever ONCE think of it as exercise or that I needed to , nope!

I never thought, ” Oh man, do I have to ride my bike today? “

I think exercise should be fun, and for me , it is, I never dread working out, and if I feel I don’t want to, I don’t!

Exercise should be fun, not something you dread  ;-)

I never used to look at a magazine……

and think, I want to be her and look just like her

Never even had a thought of wanting to be like anyone except for Paula Abdul, but I just wanted to dance like her and have her voice, or being like Stephanie from Full House because I thought she was so cool   ;-)

Never had once wanted to be like someone because I thought they had the most amazing body or were so beautiful, I thought everyone was beautiful , no matter what shape or size

Truth is……

I carry this carefree child spirit  in me as an adult

Of course growing up as a teenage girl I had my days where I wanted to be the most popular girl in school because she was so pretty and all the boys liked her, or I wanted to look like my favorite singer and have her straight hair and not my afro, and days I thought I  was ugly

I think we all have those down days, where we could beat ourselves up a little, I learned to embrace what I have and love myself , I accept my flaws, and we all have them, there is no PERFECT person, sorry  ;-)

I may not be the prettiest girl to people and I have flaws like we all do,  BUT all that matters is that I love myself and I love what I see in the mirror every day, and that my friends is key  :-D

I will always carry that carefree spirit of that afro, chicken legged, and silly child in me forever <3

Thanks for reading , I love to get deep sometimes, I think its important to be real and just live life to the fullest!

I say we all should carry a carefree spirit in us

Love to all of you !

Katie xo

aww this is great! And so true- i was thinking that the other day. Like, when do we hit the age where we become body obsessed? when do we start counting our calories and making sure we exercise instead of just having fun? its so sad to think about, but I know when and if I ever have kids Ill make sure to keep them AWAY from the diet mindset for as long as possible. you only get to be young & carefree once!! :)

Katie you have such a healthy attitude! Our “flaws” are what make us unique!

Oh, what a beautiful beautiful post! Such an important topic! I wish I was more like I used to be, when I was younger. So careless and.. free! Not that I want to eat sugar all day or anything, I WANT to be healthy. but it was so wonderful to just relax, play for exercise, eat chocolate till I felt sick (eerr, still do that..), and really dont think about what others thought of me!
We have so much to learn from children!
Have a great day sweetie! And you ARE beautiful, so you have all reasons to be happy, and proud!

Your carefree spirit is SO obvious in all that you do, Katie – and I admire it so much! You do things that make you happy – in life – in eating – in exercising.. and it is SO refreshing to find someone with such an open attitude like that! You are so amazing girl! xoxo

Great mentality and lovely post. I hope I can be more like you, but for the time being, I’ll just avoid fashion magazines. Those things are such downers!

Your confidence and postive attitude shows in every single post and I admire that. :)
I, too, was quite the Full House fan, except my attention went to DJ. I wanted to be just like her SO badly, I would spend my allowance on any magazine (Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, etc.) that had a picture or article of her. :)

Girl, I love your attitude SO much. Thank you for being a constant reminder that there’s really no reason that we can’t go through each day with a huge smile on our face :D I often look back to the days of my childhood and think that things were so much better back then, when I was more carefree… but heck… you’re 100% right… what’s stopping it from being that way now too? Just an attitude, and I’m workin’ on mine. Love you!

Lovely post Katie! No one is perfect and it’s always great to read and insightful post from such a sweet confident woman. I feel we’re all hard on ourselves sometimes but if you feel good in your skin, put good fuel in your body and you’re jeans fit you well ;) then you’re on track!

Thanks for starting my day out right!!

Beautiful post from a beautiful person. :) I often wish that I was as carefree as I was as a child. I do sometimes get self-conscious, but I always try to remind myself that no one is perfect and that my family, friends, and husband love me for who I am…not what i look like.

I loved riding a bike after school everyday and I too did it without thinking about how great it was to be getting exercise daily. It’s always sad to me that so many kids don’t get this same experience anymore, whether it be because sitting on the couch activities are more popular or because parents (unfortunately) can’t just turn their kids loose on the streets anymore for hours on end.

We still have my yellow banana seat bike with flowery basket on the front and honking horn in my mom’s garage :)

This is such a cute post Katie! I was never one of those young girls who longed to be skinny and look like a model. So happy I had a normal childhood. Girls these days are too caught up in being perfect.

Keeping your childhood self alive is the key to happiness in adulthood. Living carefree and finding balance is a part of life that so many people neglect. Find what makes you happy and stick to it. Love who you are, because you will never be anyone else but yourself. xoxo

Great post Katie! No one is perfect, and our beauty comes from not being perfect :) It’s a shame we lose that carefree attitude kids have. You never think ‘oh no this will make me fat!’ or ‘if I run a mile I’ll burn off that cookie!’ You appreciate the important things, not the things in between.
