Tropical Chia morning

by Healthy Diva on October 25, 2011

Good Morning!

Sunrise can look so cool some days, today it did! Love how beautiful the sky looks.

Last night I was going through my pantry and found a protein powder packet that I never used.

I received thisVega Tropical Tango from my swag bag at HLS in August.

I forgot all about it, as it is easy to forget other protein powders when you are a Sunwarrior addict  :-D

I didn’t think I wanted to use it in a smoothie or oats, so then I decided some chia pudding might be good!

Tropical Tango Chia Pudding

I love chia seeds, its been a while since I have enjoyed them as a pudding style eat, I usually just throw them in oats.

This was fabulous! The flavor of the Vega was SO good! It was tropical yum in a cup!

Recipe

1/2 cup oats,  2 tbsp chia seeds, 1 pack of mango tango protein, 1 cup almond milk, stevia

I love how filling it was and I enjoyed this overnight style, so it was nice and cold  ;-)

It was good to try a different breakfast, something I try to do!

Speaking of breakfast…

10 Worst Cereals

DailyBeast listed 10 of the Unhealthiest Cereals, I saw this on the main page of msn

Here is the list :

Post Shredded Wheat Honey Nut

Post Cocoa Pebbles

Post Fruity Pebbles

Post Corn Pops

Post Waffle Crisp

Post Maple Pecan Crunch

Kellog’s Toasted Honey Crunch

Kellog’s Honey Smacks

Quaker Cap’n Crunch

Quaker Natural Granola Honey, Nut, and Raisin

These choices were based on data from Good Guide and they used the most popular brands only as well.

I do know, some cereals have way too much sugar! I agree with this list, BUT its also about moderation and not having a huge portion of the cereal!

Today’s agenda for me involves a fun lunch date with a blog reader, grocery shopping before, and thats it so far!

{ Questions }

Do you think there is a cereal on that list that shouldn’t be?

When buying cereal, what do you look for?

I think that list is true, those cereals do contain lots of sugar and calories for a small serving.

When buying a cereal I look for one with 5 grams of sugar or less per serving usually, and one that has whole grain or high fiber!  Brands like Kashi I love, Fiber One, and Natures Path .

See you loves soon!

I have the same general rule for cereal! I look for the lowest amount of sugar possible. I find that I enjoy the flavor so much more when there isn’t extra junk in there.

Since cutting back on unhealthy sugars, I’ve noticed that my taste buds have adapted and my sweet tooth is essentially gone! I can’t handle sweetened almond milk anymore!

Yes, I like the lower sugar ; )

Oh and I use unsweetened almond milk too!

My favourite cereals (besides just plain oats with peanut butter and dried cherries) are Kashi Go Lean Crunch, PC Organics Wheat Squares, and Puffins. Unhealthy favourite cereals are all those Maple Pecan Crunch and Honey Bunches of Oats types that are super crunchy flakes with super yummy stuff!

Arem’t puffins the best?! I love them!!!!

I think they’re bad as standalone breakfasts but not so bad as a handful-type snack! :)

I am a cereal snack monster!

I try to go for unsweetened cereals and then add my own sweet things like fruit. I’d rather consume sugar in dessert form than from a bowl of cereal.

Yes, I feel that is smart ; )

That chia pudding looks wonderful. Wow that’s interesting to see the unhealthy cereal list. Sometimes I think Special K should be added to a diet list not to use because they have a Special K diet here where you eat Special K for breakfast and for lunch and then a regular dinner but I don’t think it teaches a person about healthy eating at all. We have Frosties here which are full of sugar so probably aren’t the best for a person either. I usually go with oats every morning, I love love oats, especially overnight oats, tasty!

I know, that Special K thing is so true.

Yes oats are my love! You know that ; ) Happy Tuesday! xo

Yes chia pudding is yummy! You can use no protein powder too, I just like to have the protein, pumpkin is another fun chia pudding to make!!

23 Lisa@Healthy Diaries October 25, 2011 at 11:37 am

Love that glass!
I grew up eating half of those cereals! Definitely way to much sugar.
I don’t really eat cereal too much anymore, but when I do I always keep the serving under 10g of sugar!

Oh we had pops at our house as a kid , in fact we had like every sugary cereal possible in our pantry at all times, haha!

I love Captain Crunch but I get the Kashi Sunshine now instead. I’ve never compared the nutritionals though…it could be just as bad! I try to stick with Kashi, Uncle Sam’s, or basic cereal like plain shredded wheat or raisin bran. I stay away from kid cereal since they are typically the most sugary.

Mmm…I know what you mean about forgetting al about other protein powders though – I have some vega sachets in my cupboard, but never eat them because I’m too busy enjoying my sun warrior, lol! :-P It’s so much better than any others!
Although, that chia pudding sounds divine – I love how thick they make oats, and so filling! <3 Happy Tuesday, lovely! xyx

I have no joke 1/2 of those in my cupboard right now. However I am happy to say that I do not eat them! I have found the hardest part of my journey thus far is trying to get my significant other on board – and he is a cereal junky!

Reply

34 Healthy Diva October 25, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Ahhhhhhh yes, when you have a cereal junky its hard ; ) My son gets cereal here and there, but I never want it anyways ! Good for you and your willpower love!!!!

Good morning lovely! Growing up I was a sugar cereal fiend. Then when I cut sugar out I quit eating it, and now occasionally I want to have a bite to remember my childhood and now it just tastes too gross and sweet to me (I’m thinking mainly of Cocoa Pebbles…ohhh how I used to love them. They tasted so much more chocolatey than Cocoa Krispies!)

But I’m bummed that I don’t like them anymore :( . I miss my childhood reminiscing!

36 Healthy Diva October 25, 2011 at 3:20 pm

Oh the sugar filled cereals bring me back to my childhood too! I used to love golden grahams! I am craving them now, haha!

Thank you again for having me part of that beautiful post this morning! xoxo

Funny that most of those cereals frequented my morning bowl as a child…and ok, up into my college years too! ;) I swear Sugar Smacks are the worst…I always thought they made my pee smell like sugar! Haha!

I have that Vega mix! I’m so having this for breakfast in the morning!!

Girl, growing up, our pantry was FULL of all the sugar filled cereals, haha!

The vegamix was awesome, I wanted to put it in a bowl of oats , but I felt like I wanted tropical fruit to put in with it and have none !
