A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

by Healthy Diva on January 22, 2013

Happy Tuesday friends!

THANK YOU for all the MIMM love yesterday! Yesterday was the biggest MIMM to date and I have all of you to thank for that, seriously you guys rock! Mondays are extra amazing over here because of all your link ups, lots of marvelous things! I wasn’t feeling good the later part of the day yesterday, nausea came to say hi, so I didn’t get to read all the MIMM posts. I am hoping to get some down time today to!

Please know I may not be able to comment on all, but know I am reading and thank you again!  icon mrgreen A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

Yesterday was a day FULL of non stop errands, I was on the go all day. My first stop was Trader Joe’s, haven’t been there in a couple weeks and it was good to get there again. I really LOVE buying my produce there, since it saves me money than buying at my regular grocer Giant Eagle.

Got some good stuff and I will share my haul later in a TJ’s post today!

IMG 5750 A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

I had to run to the regular grocer after, but came home and unloaded these bags and ate lunch in between! I get so hungry ALL the time since being pregnant so an early lunch it was for me.

Sandwich with grilled chicken, spinach, cheese, and guacamole on a pretzel fold out. Pear and chocolate on the side

IMG 5767 A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

I did some computer work while eating, relaxed, then headed out again to do more errands, but I was dragging! I figured I would get my other grocery shopping done and get a starbucks fix after. I got an iced coffee black, since I was on my way home I knew I could add my stuff to it.

IMG 5771 A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

Yes, I drink coffee even while pregnant. My doctor says it’s fine for me too, one cup a day is all I have!

More errands were ran after I came and unloaded those groceries, long day of errands and DUH the bank was closed yesterday! I went to go deposit a check and realized that, haha!

When I got home later in the day, that is when the nausea hit me and I felt like poo. I laid on the couch, worked on the new diva bump post I posted this morning, and had a snack of a clif mojo bar.

IMG 5775 A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

Feeling poopy is not fun, I thought I might of been getting sick but woke up today feeling fine so it was just pregnancy nausea.

Dinner was light since I didn’t even have an appetite but made myself eat something.

Grilled chicken, tomato basil hummus, broccoli, and crunchmaster crackers.

IMG 5781 A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

I was in bed at 7:30 pm last night, watched The Bachelor for a little when it came on and passed out.

********

Woke up ready for breakfast and feeling good!

I added a fruit I forgot about and love to my oatmeal bowl this morning…

KIWI!

I forgot how much I love it, thanks to Dr.Oz for highlighting on his show last week, I picked some up yesterday.

Vanilla protein oats!

1/2 cup oats, 1.5 cup silk vanilla almond milk, vanilla stevia, sunwarrior vanilla, 2 tbsp plain chobani, and topped it with kiwi and cashew butter.

IMG 5790 A Fruit I Forgot I Loved

Breakfast rocked! I am glad I got some kiwi, so good and a fruit I did love and miss!

Well, I am off to start this day! I have to pick up my parents at the airport this afternoon and have some stuff to do before then. A workout might happen today, but I think it may just be a rest day since I wasn’t feeling great last night, don’t want to push too hard.

Happy Tuesday and see you later!

**New Diva Bump Pregnancy Post was posted this morning!

I do like kiwi, but I never think to buy it…I wouldn’t be able to tell you the last time I had one!

And I’m a huge deal person when it comes to groceries…I usually hit up 4-5 different stores to make sure I’m taking full advantage of deals!

I love Kiwi. But they have to be ripe, I don’t like them when they are sour. I am sorry you had nausea yesterday and glad that you feel okay today! The Hummus looks good, I just made my own Guacamole-Hummus and it’s so delicious I could eat it all in one round :-)
Yes, I do shop in 2 different groceries, since the Whole foods has some stuff I can’t get at the local supermarket, but all the rest is SO expensive I can not buy everything there.

I like kiwi. I never buy it though. I usually only have it when they put out fruit with breakfast on Friday mornings at work.

I do go to a couple different supermarkets to get the best deals. I usually go to ShopRite as my main store and then I go to Aldi for produce and some other things. I’ll also check out the produce store too for good deals. I love couponing too. That saves us so much money :)

I do love Kiwi. I can’t remember the last time I had one though. Good produce is so hard to find right now….I let my daughter get raspberries last week and it was $8, and she had them all in one sitting! lol. I can’t wait for spring/summer time.

I go to Wegmans about once a month for my big shop, specifically meat, because it’s cheaper there. I need to go today and I think I’m going to try Harris Teeter. They have some good produce sometimes.

Mmmm . . . I love kiwi!! I eat the entire fruit, skin and all, which some people think is weird, but I think it tastes great! :)

I love Kiwis! I haven’t had them in a long time and I almost bought them yesterday. Now I wish I would have! I go to more than one grocery store just to find what I need. Glad you’re feeling better today!

I shop between 3 grocery stores! It can be annoying, but worth it. I used to despise Costco on a cellular level, but now that they carry a good selection of organic produce & dry goods I force myself to go. :)
Love kiwi too – mixed w sliced strawberries & bananas. It’s my fav summer fruit salad.

I love kiwi! It’s definitely a fruit that I forget about often. I may have to pick some up soon :) your breakfast looks great!

Sometimes I feel like a crazy person bouncing between different grocery stores, so I’m glad to know that I’m not alone! I do the majority of my shopping at Giant Eagle, and hit up Whole Foods (and TJs occasionally) for certain special items (non-dairy yogurts, almond butter, etc.).

I LOVE kiwi! I eat the skin and everything. Have you ever tried golden kiwis (yellow flesh instead of green)? They’re sweeter instead of tart – delicious.

Hope you feel 100% better soon!

P.S. – how is that maca chocolate bar?

Kiwi in Oatmeal? That’s a new one to me! I’m not too sure if I’d be into the textures, but will certainly give it a shot! I love it by itself though!

your breakfast looks SO AMAZING, honey! I looked at it on IG and fell IN LOVE! I need it. I recently made a kiwi strawberry protein shake with vanilla protein and, I too, forgot how amazing kiwi’s were!

We learnt in one of my courses last year that limited coffee (like you’re doing) is perfectly fine :) So happy you’re still able to enjoy your favs <3 I love the add ins from home :)

Congrats on the biggest MIMM! I know how exciting that is :)

Love you

Have a great day!!!!!

I loooove kiwi, but sometimes it’s just a pain to peel. So worth it though :D

I drank coffee all through both my pregnancies. :-)
I haven’t had a kiwi in years. But I do like them. Maybe I’ll have to pick some up soon.
I usually shop at 2 stores, but have been known to hit up 4 if they’re all having really great sales.

Oh man, I haven’t had kiwi in FOREVER. I like them, but I find that it’s harder to come across a good one during this time of the year, and biting into a super sour kiwi is never any fun. Right now I’m all about the apples and bananas :)

I have a feeling I will be drinking a cup of coffee or wine here and there when I’m pregnant too. I love that you own this! People will ALWAYS tell you what is right or wrong, especially when your preggo, but YOU know your body and your growing baby best. Screw everyone else for making anyone feel bad about a little caffeine now and then.

I’m sorry you felt ill and hope today is better for you.
I can’t even recall the last time I had kiwi. It is not my favorite but mixed in a fruit salad it is ok.
I do try to look for the deals in the weekly ad and go to a few stores. If I am lazy though I end up just buying it for more at one store. In CA though the sale price vs the original can be a major difference. The prices of groceries are so $$ in CA compared to up north where I am from.
Have a good day!

Funny you mentioned Kiwi because we just started enjoying it again too! I bought some for my little guy and had forgotten just how good they are. He loves them too! When I was a Student Teacher (years ago), my master teacher grew Kiwi’s and gave me tons all the time. So I think I got a little burnt out on them but am happy to love them again!

I haven’t had a kiwi in a long, long time unless it comes in a fruit salad I get from a restaurant.

I have a general idea of what’s cheap at particular restaurants so I know where to get things like fruit, cereals/grains, meat, etc.

I am from the home the kiwi, New Zealand :) My Moms job deals with exporting Kiwis, so during the kiwi season we are lucky to have kiwis coming out of our ears. Not literally, but ya know. They are the best tasting kiwis too! Oooh I miss them! I am living in the desert (United Arab Emirates) now so they aren’t so readily available.

OOOHHH! Flat out PRETZEL bread? I HAVE to find that!

I haven’t been to the local TJs that opened last year because it’s always a zoo, but I loved the one I went to in Cali. I figured if I went it would be for just a few things, but I’m glad the know the produces is affordable. Maybe I’ll try to start shopping on my lunch breaks there and avoid the weekend rush hours. :)

Boo on feeling crappy yesterday but I’m glad it’s gone today! I always shop arround because giant eagle is so expensive! Tjs, however, doesn’t have some of the name brand stuff i like, though, so i always check the target next door before hitting giant eagle since it’s cheaper!

Those protein oats look AMAZING! I've been loving overnight oats lately–especially with banana and peanut butter. How had I forgotten about kiwis?! They're such an underrated fruit! I'm going to the store today, and will definitely pick up a few and think of you!

Sending tons of hugs your way!! Happy Tuesday, love!! <3

I actually am not much of a fan of kiwi..I think? It might be one of those things I used to dislike but haven’t tried it in SO LONG that I should probably try it again.

I REALLY want to figure out how to shop for good deals while grocery shopping since that seems to be my biggest expense each month (aside from rent!). Lindsay (Lean Green Bean) did a pretty good post on this yesterday! I think I’m going to save my receipts and create a nerdy spreadsheet and put the prices for each item so I can monitor what prices are and get an idea of what a good one is.

Also that tomato basil hummus = yummy!
