Try it Tuesday

by Healthy Diva on August 7, 2012

Good morning and happy Tuesday to everyone!

Last night I went out to dinner with friends, was nice! No pics just good times. I did get home at 10 pm and decided it was a good time to grill up chicken, haha!

The chicken I meant to grill up earlier in the day but never got the chance to. Better late than never and now I have some for the next couple days  icon wink Try it Tuesday

Blogs are great to read, one BIG reason why? You see so many new products, recipes, or tricks that you want to try. So today here are a couple things I have been loving and perhaps you might want to try.

Try It Tuesday

Maca is a great addition to a smoothie! Maca has many great benefits, some are included below.

IMG 3774 682x1024 Try it Tuesday

* increases energy levels and stamina

* regulates hormones

* improves physical endurance

There are more benefits as well, read here to find out more!

I put maca in my mango, banana, and peach smoothie yesterday  icon biggrin Try it Tuesday

My smoothie was topped with another “try it item” which is coconut butter! A great healthy fat that is sweet and can be great topped on a smoothie, on toast, in oats, and more. My favorite brand is the artisana coconut butter.

IMG 3775 682x1024 Try it Tuesday

So good! I usually just melt a little up in a bowl and top on my smoothies! My favorite way of having it.

A seasoning I love, Mrs. Dash salt free line! There are a few that rock and this one I love on chicken!

IMG 3784 682x1024 Try it Tuesday

Fiesta Lime, a very good one to season chicken with  icon wink Try it Tuesday

Mrs. Dash has other great flavors too, if you just look at your local grocer you should be able to find it! I like to use the salt free line.

A sweetener you might want to try, agave! Agave is another healthier sweetener you can use when you want some sweet in things like tea.  I use it in my iced green tea here and there, I also have added it to plain greek yogurt for sweetness!

Some fun items you may already have tried or do use daily, either way I am glad to share!

Happy Tuesday, I am off to have some smoothie time for breakfast…

That fiesta lime seasoning sounds great! I definitely need to look for that. I’m always looking for different ways to season chicken because it can get boring.

Happy Tuesday love!

I have been using agave for a while, especially in baking but I’ve been reading that it’s not as healthy as it seems so I definitely want to do some more research on it.
I use coconut oil A LOT! I’m not sure if it’s similar to coconut butter.
I’ve recently tried making spelt tortillas after seeing them on http://www.ohsheglows.com and at the opposite end of the scale I tried Hendrick’s Gin after seeing it on http://www.cupcakesandcashmere.com :)

I’ve been using my maca everyday!!
I’ve been wanting to try lucuma powder as a different sweetener.
And the last blog recipe I tried was Heather’s Protein Cake Batter Pudding made with cottage cheese. It was great. I added the maca to that too!!

Here is some info on agave (kind of scary actually!), thought you might want to check it out:

Agave syrup is very high in fructose. Depending on the brand, agave can contain as much as 92% fructose. Nowhere in nature does this ratio of fructose to glucose occur naturally. The amount of fructose in agave is much, much higher than the 55% fructose in high-fructose corn syrup or the 50% fructose in refined table sugar, making agave “nectar” worse for you than either table sugar or corn syrup. Yikes! Perhaps it should be called High-Fructose Agave Syrup (HFAS)!

The fact that agave syrup is high in low-glycemic fructose is often hailed as a benefit of using it. What many people don’t realize is that concentrated fructose is probably worse for you than high amounts of glucose. In fact, agave syrup has been banned by the Glycemic Index Institute for the harm it caused to study participants.

Agave is not naturally sweet like sugar cane, honey or fruit. Whether heavily processed with heat and chemicals or minimally processed with enzymes, agave syrup requires an intensive, patented process to extract its sweetness. As such, agave syrup is not a whole or traditional food. It is a factory-made, modern product, and like all processed foods, agave syrup is missing many of the enzymes and nutrients that the original plant had to begin with. And like many processed foods, it contains very high amounts of fructose that the human body simply wasn’t designed to handle.

Thanks for posting this! I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one that knows about the truth behind agave! I wish it would quit being marketed as a health food!

I know, Katrina!
I follow so many awesome blogs and it freaks me out when I see that people are still doing the agave thing…
It is just another Frankenfood, unfortunately!

Fun post :) I have been seeing more and more bloggers write about Maca and Coconut butter.. I have yet to try either! Does WF sell coconut butter? I have seen maca there.. I need BOTH on my list now! My new favorite thing I discovered from blogs is Sun Warrior Protein and Unsweetened Coconut :) I dipped chicken in the coconut shreddings last night and cooked on the stove.. SO GOOD!

I have looked everywhere for coconut butter and can’t find it near me, not even at the specialty grocery stores. Maybe I’ll try ordering it online. I will definitely try the Mrs. Dash fiesta lime. I’m always looking for a good seasoning for my chicken. Thanks for the ideas.

I absolutely love coconut but have yet to try coconut butter! I need to get on that! I’ve heard of maca powder but didn’t realize that it can help with hormone regulation and energy levels! I might have to start using it!

Coconut butter is my love!! I am eating it on everything right now–SO SO good! Why does it have to be so gosh darn expensive though? I am super possessive of that stuff–nobody is going to dip their finger into my coconut butter! Haha. ;)

Mrs. Dash is a lifesaver when it comes to seasoning! I love all the blends; they make whipping up a healthy meal so each. It’s like one stop cooking…you only have to shake one bottle instead of ten!

I hope you’re having a lovely day, love!! SO excited for Boston! xoxoxo

I put Maca into my oatmeal daily! Not sure if it does anything but I’ve actually grown to like the taste. And Artisana coconut butter is fantastic! I mix it with a bit of hot water to create a coconut cream and use it to top off oats, pancakes, and just about anything else.

Well, you of course know I am in love with coconut butter. Best.tasting.thing.ever!
I could eat it all day long.

At a women’s expo last year I tried maca in a little shot glass (some sort of extract, maybe?) And wow – definitely a huge energy increase. I think it’d be worth picking some up sometime!

I definitely want to start adding maca to my smoothies! The nutritional stats are amazing and, since I’ve been drinking at least one smoothie a day, I might as well get the most bang for my buck!
I discovered these new cinnamon-apple straws (like veggie straws but sweet!) at Trader Joe’s yesterday. They’re brand new and amaaazing! I tried them last night and had such a hard time putting the bag away. I definitely recommend them! (:

I totally purchased those Vitafusion gummies that you posted the other day. I tried them last night, and they worked like a DREAM! After sleeping horribly over the last few months (for the first time ever) last night was sleeping bliss. I will absolutely be taking these a few times a week. Only thing I’m concerned about is addition?!?! Do you know anything about that?

I loooove the blog world. Its the reason I even know what healthy food is, and a starting point for many of our meals. It also helps to read about people being happy/sad/ext., to make you feel like your life IS normal, ya know?

I am so glad you tried them and it really helped you sleep! I am loving them, Mike is too! What do you mean by addition?

I love the blog world too, I am so happy I started my blog! Makes my heart very happy every day! <3
