ttmt 1 TTMT #17 Do You Fear the Fat?

And we are talking FATS today!

Fats that are good for you, and hell, ones that are not the best either.

Do you fear the fat?

I did. YUP. I used to live in a “no I am scared of fats land” before.

Then I realized I was doing damage to myself and missing the EFF OUT!

Healthy fats are essential. Should I ramble off the reasons why?

Well, how about a few…

  • supplies your body with essential nutrients
  • great for skin and hair
  • good for cholesterol
  • great for reproductive health
  • Because they are GOOD!

Healthy fats are where it’s at!

Some of my favorite healthy fats…

  • almond butter
  • avocado
  • coconut butter
  • chia seeds
  • salmon

Sad to think about days when I feared healthy fats, and how it could of really damaged my body. Sometimes we just get so wrapped up in society, and listen to what they say is bad, good, or what to do. I think it is SO important to spread the message of healthy fats being essential, especially to young teenage girls who may fear the word “fat” when it comes to food.

I was that young adult that did, and it makes me sad. I am embrace my healthy fats now, and need them for sure. The not so healthy fats I embrace too, but in moderation.

Healthy fats for life!

So tell me…

Have you ever feared the “healthy fats?”

What are two of your favorite healthy fats?

Favorite not so healthy fat?

A fun little chart I found to compare the fats…

Healthy fats are the best! I love all nuts, seeds, and nut butters, and of course the wonderful butteriness of coconut butter! I also have started loving avocados on everything to!
Salmon and Sardines are my go-to fatty fish for sure.

I love fats! I couldn’t get through a day without some peanut butter! Any nut butter is one of my favorites! I also really enjoy coconut butter as well :)

I LOVE seeds, nuts and my Omegas :) In my late-20s I had to learn about healthy fats pretty quickly. I found out at a young age that I had an enzyme deficiency, however; I did not know this included being able to break down animal fats and vegetable oil. I can say that having a reaction to vegetable oil is horrible – I was sick for about 7 days. I really watch the animal fats too and eat as lean as possible when it comes to animal proteins. My gut is so much happier and healthier now. Great Post – thanks so much for sharing!

To be honest….when I first began my journey, I had no clue that these types of fats were important! That’s one of the cool things about learning new things when it comes to health….especially your own health. :)
Thank you for sharing!

Exactly! I really didn’t know either, but I was not eating enough at all. Pretty damn sad how I used to be back in my early 20’s. But, life is all about lessons, and learning them. Thank you!

I had a fear of fat for many many years. I wouldn’t eat anything that contained fat and I wouldn’t eat anything I didn’t make myself because I was scared it may have been in cooked in butter or oil. The result of this was a body that didn’t function properly reproductively and it’s the reason I needed fertility treatment to get pregnant. Luckily once I got pregnant, the only thing I cared about was that my babies were healthy and growing and I stopped caring. I started eating all types of fat like it was my job. And since then, while I don’t overdo it, I definitely eat my fair share and enjoy it immensely.
My favorite healthy fats are salmon and nut butters.
My favorite unhealthy fat…well I really like cake frosting which is made with butter!

YUP! I had that same issue, but mine was more over exercising and not fueling my body properly. I am so happy you got through that rough time! Proud of you! Thanks for sharing that too!

Cake frosting, mmmmmm!

I still have a little fear of the fat. I’ve brainwashed myself for so long that I’m slowly trying to recover. Adding avocado with GUSTO has been a real treat, and salmon finds its way into my dinner more than once a week. I’d love to hear more about how you shifted your frame of mind!!

I have my days where my mind gets the best of me, nobody is perfect. We all work on ourselves every single day, and do the best we can each day. I slip sometimes and don’t eat enough healthy fat, but lately I have been doing good! I realize I need more than I eat some days, but I am not perfect and just trying to figure it out still sometimes! I was HORRIBLE back in the day, I have come SO far. Am I disordered sometimes, yup! I am just being honest, and it is ok to not be perfect, nobody is. Me realizing how disordered I was, really helps me to be better too. Fats are friends! Plus when I first had the baby, I was just so busy, I wasn’t eating as much as I should of, that was bad on my part. I had stress as well, and stress kills me!

Love you! You will get there, just listen to your body girl! Love you!

Such a great post! I’ve had a fear of fats for a long time. Now that I’m pregnant I really need to add them. I have almond butter and avocado but am a little stuck with adding more. I don’t eat fish. Any suggestions would be greatly welcome!

Have you ever tried coconut butter? So good! Also, cooking veggies or other stuff in coconut oil is a good way as well! Trail mix too! Yum! Congrats as well on your pregnancy!

i used to really fear eating fat. it makes me sad because i know that i was majorly depriving my body of healthy fats for a few years. honestly, i still get a little freaked out when i consume a high amount of fat, but i know that it’s good for me and that my body needs it. i absolutely love avocado, almonds, cashews, and chia seeds and pretty much consume them daily now! i’m glad we’re both learning from our past mistakes and trying to nuture our bodies now. <3

Yes, I was scared of fats. I was scared of all types of fats good or bad. Earlier for me good fat or bad fat didn’t matter because I thout all fats are bad. But while in my attempt of losing 65 pounds which I successfully lost I understood the details of good and bad fats.
My favourite good fats are avocadoes and almond butter.
